UK employees work longer hours than the rest of EU

A new study by the European Union has revealed that UK workers are still working some of the longest hours in Europe. The average number of hours worked per week by full time UK employees is 41.4, compared to 37.7 by our French neighbours. Full time workers in Ireland average 39 hours, with only Bulgaria and Romania averaging more hours than the UK. The research conducted by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions showed that the average agreed working time in EU countries stood at 38.6 hours.

The long hours UK workers spend in the workplace may be affecting their health with almost half of UK workers  reporting back problems in the last year.
