750 million sheets of Closed Loop paper sold

Banner is delighted to announce that sales of our Closed Loop paper have now exceeded over 750 million sheets of paper.

In 2009, Banner developed its Closed Loop document destruction and paper recycling service in response to a request from HMRC to provide an audit of its document destruction facilities. Today, Banner provides a Closed Loop national document destruction service to HMRC and other Government locations. The recovered waste paper is transported to our partnering mill, where it is segregated from other waste streams and used to manufacture new recycled copier paper. The new paper is branded specifically for Banner and supplied back to HMRC and other departments who support this innovative and sustainable service.

Over 1.5 million reams of Banner 100% recycled Closed Loop paper have now been manufactured. Compared to the production of virgin copier paper, this equates to a saving of 64,504 trees; a reduction in CO2 emissions of 2,530 tonnes; a reduction in energy consumption of 30.5 million kilowatts; and a reduction in water consumption of 170 million litres. Banner was recently awarded the contract to be sole provider of office products and Closed Loop services under the Government Office Supplies Contract.  A number of Government departments already use the contract including HMRC, the Ministry of Defence, DEFRA, the Cabinet Office and the Home Office.

Richard Costin, Managing Director, commented: “I am proud that our Closed Loop vision is now delivering significant environmental benefits. The potential to do even better is vast and we are committed to helping all of our customers to adopt Closed Loop solutions in the future.”
